Is taking drivers ed the same as taking private driving lessons?

In New York State they require that everyone takes drivers ed to get there license at 17. If you take a private drivers ed where they come pick you up at your house and drive, does it still count as regular drivers ed? Can you still get your license at the same time?|||It counts for the driving hours, but you still need actual class time. I've been told that going to classes is extremely boring though, and more expensive. I did online drivers ed at driversed.com. It says it takes 30 hours, but it really didn't, and it's certified. If you have friends who need to take drivers ed, they can get a discount and you can get money if you refer them. If you want 10% off any course or driving hours if you schedule using the site, you can use mcmalaspino@yahoo.com as a referral code.|||You need to take a approved drivers education course at high school or a college that offers it. Its a full course that you take and get a certificate if you pass. Taking lessons from a driving school doesn't count as taking the drivers education course. You have to get the certificate MV-285 to apply for your full license if your 17. And no you cant do it online like the post below says , since those are not approved by the New York State Education Department.|||no, that would be your behind the wheel drivers training. The drivers ed is a different course that you need to take before your drivers training. You can do your drivers ed online actually and they send home your certificate when your finished. You should try www.driveredtogo.com and use this code for a discount:X22-AF6-A8M I used that site a few months ago and it was great!
